Gingerbread House

Kaitlyn and I had ventured off to Michael's on Saturday!  They had a display of gingerbread kits on sales, so we decided to get one.  Sunday we put it together and started decorating it.  Here are some pics.

Monster Jam

We headed to the Metrodome for the last time on Saturday night.  We decided to take the kids to Monster Jam.  Gavin has really been into his Hot Wheels Monster Trucks and since they are tearing down the Metrodome soon we thought we should go.  We bought the tickets on Friday, so our seats weren't the best, but we had a blast.

Kaitlyn was a little nervous because we were really high up.  She got used to it pretty quickly and never said another word about being scared of heights. 

I had never been to a Monster Jam before so I honestly had no idea what to expect!  It was loud and exciting!

Everyone knows that when you leave events like this... getting out of the venue and the parking lots is a nightmare!  We ended up staying to the end, but got to the stairs immediately after the show.  This allowed us to get ahead of the crowd.  Once we got to the main hallway... Gavin went on Nate's shoulders and I held onto Kaitlyn.  The kids loved being pushed out the door.  (My favorite part as well.)  Than we high tailed it  back to the car.  We were out of the parking lot just as I finished buckling Gavin into his car seat.  I was impressed with our speed and we were home in no time.

What I want to be when I grow up...

We went to Kaitlyn's school conferences last night.  Each student picked an occupation and wrote it on their iPads.  There were lots of nurses, vets, firefighters, and policeman, but there was only 1....

We are not sure where she learned about being a dolphin trainer, but I give her points for being creative.

Trick or Treat

Happy Halloween!  We headed to Waverly to do some trick or treating with our best friends the Eggiman's and some other friends.

Gavin had 3 costumes to choose from this year.  He chose being a firefighter.  We used his rain jacket and I bought some reflective tape and put that around his pants and on his helmet.  I also taped a flashlight to his helmet to help with trick or treating in the dark.  He only wore his helmet for these pictures!

At first Gavin wasn't too impressed until he realized that if he said "Trick or Treat" he would get candy.  After that he was all for going to houses with lights on.

Pumpkins and Power Tools - Canceled

A few weeks ago we planned a Pumpkins and Power Tools party... unfortunately we had to cancel it. Kaitlyn woke up Saturday morning with a horrible sore throat and a high temp... this could only mean one thing... STREP THROAT!  We headed to the Target minute clinic for a quick throat swab to confirm and hopefully gets some antibiotics.  Kaitlyn is the only one in our household that seems to get Strep throat. That's good and bad... Good that we don't have more sick days on the books and Bad because this is Kaitlyn's 5th time getting Strep in the past year!

Since we had already picked out our pumpkins we needed to find an evening to carve.  Tonight was the night!  Here are few pictures of our carvings....

Gavin was not about to put his hand inside the pumpkin.  He was more interested in the tool that helped scrap the inside.  Mommy had to do all the dirty work.

Kaitlyn on the other hand loved getting her hands dirty.  After we were done carving pumpkins I think she spent a good 30 minutes just making pumpkin/seed pies with the insides!

Fall Camping - A New Tradition

We went on our last camping trip of the season this past weekend.  Most private campgrounds close October 1st, so we headed to Whitewater state park for the long MEA weekend.  Three other families joined our fall camping adventure.

Whitewater State park is located in-between Rochester and Winona in beautiful bluff country.  The camping area is located down in a valley, so Verizon carriers had no phone service.  (It was actually a nice vacation from facebook, emails, phone calls, and text messages.)

The weather was pretty chilly, but since we all have homes on wheels and have the luxury of furnaces (or space heaters if you choose to forgo your furnace.. wink wink Dann).  I packed all our winter gear so we could spend the majority of our time exploring the park.

Friday was the nicest day so several of us headed out for a long hike.  There were 6 adults, 6 kids (oldest 3rd grade, the youngest 2 1/2 (Gavin)), and one Dog.  It was right after lunch that we headed out on our big adventure.

While we did our hike, Nate had the Map my Run App going to track our steps.  We went 4.8 miles in about 3.5 hours.  All the kids did awesome and there was hardly any whining during the whole hike!  All of the adults were impressed with the kids!

The rest of the weekend we spent doing little hikes, sitting by the campfire, and learning about walking sticks at the park learning center.  Saturday we did make a trip to Winona for lunch because it was raining!

We had a great fall camping experience and can't wait for next year!  Which State Park should we go to?
